Fractal Explorer.
*************************************** Before I saw this image was an DD, I added the text: entry for the Fractaldreams Icon / ID contest. This was after Sophquest had decided to make it an DD. So, we both didn't know this from each other. I'm telling this because we both don't want people to be prejudiced for the contest... I hope I explained it well... This is the first time I used the layer / texture function in FE. I consider the use of layers not as real fractals, but there is a big discussion about it. But..., you can create wonderful images with this possibility. Ultra Fractal is a very good example. FE has very basic options to create a two layered fractal, and this is what I've done with it. In short: Open FE - render a fractal - click on "Tx" on the menu - a window opens - load an image as background (just as big as the render) - uncheck the "infinity area only" box - choose a layer option (like multiply) - change the "Alpha" box. Just play a bit with these options. Read the warning. Click "Close". Save fractal. Daily DeviationGiven 2008-01-14The Suggestor Writes: "The dream of a butterfly by *titiavanbeugen is an incredible fractal that brings a butterfly to life. It's colors and form are almost identical to a standard, everyday butterfly. But as one can see, this is no everyday fractal! The artist makes good use of Fractal Explorer's layering option, as well!" ~ What a fabulous fractal creation certainly deserving of a DD! (Suggested by `xero-sama and Featured by `Sophquest) |

Just call me " Kido " !
There was just one problem I found with the Tx and that was if I wanted a large enough fractal to make a decent sized print out of it, the tiles show up horrendously. Such a shame, because it does add a lot to many fractals, so for those I've had to keep them particularly small.
I'm quite surprised that you don't think using layers constitutes a true fractal, but when you get such artistic results with just one layer most of the time with FE, maybe I shouldn't be!
We just like to go for more "funky" stuff with UF I think! lol!

Yes, the tiling problem... I know. The layer image has to be as big (or bigger) as the render.
But, if you merge 2 fractal layers in such a program as PSP, you can get the same result... or better. Merging fractals is not a fractalproperty.

No, I'm not a purist, beyond the fact that I like the challenge of doing all in one program! But I've seen some amazing composites that are very subtly done.
